The National Research Council of Canada has featured Jones as an innovation success story for our work developing intelligent packaging solutions for pharmaceuticals and over-the-counter medications in the global market.
Last year, Jones entered into a highly successful research and development collaboration with Thin Film Electronics ASA (Thinfilm), which was made possible by support from the National Research Council’s Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP), Sweden’s national innovation agency, Vinnova, and EUREKA, administered in Canada by the NRC.
The project is set to transform how consumers purchase pharmaceuticals, over-the-counter medications and more through the introduction of interactive “smart labels” and intelligent packaging to address product integrity and patient safety, while offering a new level of consumer engagement.
Through these assistance programs and our work with Thinfilm, Jones successfully integrated Thinfilm’s NFC OpenSense™ labels with paperboard pharma packaging on our high-speed production line, and we were the first in the world to be certified as Thinfilm’s ‘Preferred Converter’ for this type of application in November. We also recently released a joint video that showcases the NFC label application process at high speed and the benefits of creating this new, interactive solution for brands.
